Kenyan General Elections to be held on 9th August

Kenyan general elections are set to be held on the 9th of August. The elections for the selection of Kenya’s next president and legislature are expected to renew ethnic violence in the country, as the presidency is widely viewed as the main source of power.  The country also faces a sizable national debt, high unemployment and a crisis of cost-of-living. Following the multi-party system in the country, voters will vote for deputy president, governors of counties, representatives of the National Assembly, County Assemblies, and members of the Senate among others. Votes will be cast through approximately 46,232 polling stations spread across the country.

The International Conference on Global Governance and Global Administrative Law is expected to be held from the 5th of August

The International Research Conference is set to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from the 5th of August. Organized by the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, this conference will create a platform for research scholars and academics to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue. The conference will address the recent developments in the fields of global governance, global law, administrative law and related thematic areas. The papers and research presented during the course of the conference, and all the proceedings of the conference will also be indexed in Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, Impact Factor Indicators and Open Science Index.

The Eighth Conference of States Parties to the ATT (CSP8) is set to be held from 22 – 26 August 2022

The Eighth Conference of States Parties to the ATT (CSP8) is set to be held at Geneva, Switzerland from 22 – 26 August 2022. The Eight Conference will renew its commitment to establishing a responsible global trade and transfer of conventional arms. This year’s Conference will be held in person, with the option of livestreaming for those unable to attend. This year’s proceedings will also discuss how global partners can work together to thwart illegal trade of conventional arms by creating international standards to govern the transfer of arms. It will also work to prevent the use of arms in conflict zones, and where there is a possibility of exacerbating humanitarian crises.

The Tenth Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons will be held on 1 – 26 August 2022.

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons will host its Tenth Review Conference on 1 – 26 August 2022 in New York. The Treaty will work towards curbing the spread of nuclear weapons and related technology. Its ultimate goal will be to move towards complete disarmament. It is the only binding multilateral commitment by nuclear-weapon States.  The Review Conference will address the implementation of the several provisions of the Treaty pertaining to the inalienable right of all parties to the Treaty to research, development and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. It will also address the articles pertaining to non-proliferations and nuclear free zones.

Energy and Environment

The International Conference on Energy Environment Ecosystems, and Development will be held from 16-17th August

Organized by the World Academy of Science, the International Conference on Energy, Environment and Development is set to be held in Venice, Italy on August 16-17, 2022.Some of the themes that the conference will address include air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, bio-fuels & food scarcity, advanced recycle technologies, city planning and energy conversion and management. The conference will produce high quality research and allow academics and researchers to engage in issues pertaining to the various themes to be addressed in the conference.  The conference will start its digital session on August 16th, followed by the presentation of original research by the participants.

EU Member States Pledge to Reduce gas Demands starting 1st of August

Facing a looming energy crisis, EU member states will be to committing to a 15 % voluntary natural gas reduction beginning this August. The member states will be cautious about the possibility of a complete cut-off from Russian gas supplies.  The demand reduction measures will be put in place to decrease EU energy insecurity in energy supply.  The Council recently reached this political agreement and will be open to the prospect of issuing a ‘Union alert’, which will render the reduction demand mandatory. Exemptions will also be put in place for those states not connected to other states’ gas network. For now, Hungary is the only state which remains opposed to the decision.

The 26th RSEP International Conference on Economics, Finance & Business set to will be held on 22-23 August 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey

The 26th Review of Socio-Economic Perspectives (RSEP) conference is set to be held in Istanbul Turkey from the 22-23 August. The thematic conference will cover a broad range of topics including Entrepreneurship, Financial and Environmental Economics, Accounting, Emerging Economies and Energy Studies. The conference will also be held virtually over Zoom. The proceedings of the conference will be included in Thomson Reuters and Web of Science™ among other platforms. The conference will create an opportunity for an exchange of knowledge and ideas surrounding the major themes of business, finance and economics, and encourage and exchange of ideas on the critical areas of risk management.

Pakistan is to attend 13 trade exhibitions in China starting 25th August

According to Annual Business Plan (ABP) of Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP), Pakistan will be attending thirteen trade exhibitions in China beginning this August. The exhibitions will cover several key areas and products including agro & food, leather, textile and exports of meat, mangoes and rice to China. Several export promotional workshops, conferences and webinars have also been planned as a part of these exhibitions. These exhibitions will encourage B2B communications. Some of the specific industries and goods covered under these exhibitions will include sports goods, surgical equipment and gemstones from Pakistan. These exhibitions are expected to improve market understanding, research and linkages for both China and Pakistan.

The Global ESG and Sustainability Summit – 2022 is set to be held on the 25th of August

The 2022 Global ESG and Sustainability Summit will be held virtually on the 25th of August. Good Governance Academy will hold the session in association with Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), The South African Business Schools Association (SABSA), and Global Business School Network (GBSN).  The summit will address the challenges for current global economic models. It will examine the current economic practices in relation to the global environment and society. The major focus of the Summit will be on Sustainability and all related practices which can be integrated into the current and emerging business models. The interactive session will also feature global thought leaders to enable an effective exchange of ideas.

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples to be celebrated on the 9th of August

UNESCO will host the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, which is celebrated every year on the 9th of August as decided through UN resolution 49/214 in 1994.  It will also mark the day when the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations met for the first time in the year 1982. The day will be a celebration of indigenous people, their knowledge and culture.  This year, the observance will follow the theme, “The Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge”. It will canter around the role of women in indigenous communities as the preservers and transmitters of traditional ancestral knowledge. The event will be open to civil society, public, UN entities and Member States, and Indigenous Peoples.
