Tracking the Houthi’s Attacks in the Red Sea November 2023 to March 2024

Key Points:

  • There were 44 attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb strait by the Houthis between November 2023 and March 2024.
  • The US and European navies destroyed unmanned arial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned surface vessels (USVs), anti-ship missiles (AshMs) and anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) on 29 occasions during the same time period.
  • Ships were initially targeted only because of Israeli ownership, or going to or coming from Israel. This later on escalated to any and all ships in the Red Sea being targeted irrespective of their ownership or desitnantion.
