Economic Growth, PML-N, PPP, Gen. Musharraf, Nationalization, CPEC, Democracy, Dictatorship

Economies have different historical backgrounds and operate under sundry government structures. Every ruler comes up with his own economic and social policies which broadly affects the nation either in a positive or a negative way. In Pakistan, the political instability played a very crucial role in maneuvering the economic trends. Pakistan’s economy has experienced a mixture of paradoxes. Initially, the growth rates were impressive but then there was also a time referred to as the ‘lost decade’. Pervez Musharraf’s era embarked the achievement of many milestones and excellent growth rates followed by the worst example of bad governance and poor state of the economy under the President Zardari regime. In the current scenario, Nawaz Sharif’s government is playing a vital role and making a satisfactory contribution on its behalf. Results demonstrate that the macroeconomic indicators performed well in dictatorship regimes in Pakistan. Democratic governments lack proper governance and commitment but by inculcating good governance, commitment and proper management, democracies can perform far better than authoritarian regimes. Positive trends in the economy are being observed since last 3 years and the economy of Pakistan is reviving robustly.
